CONCERT AT TOWN HALL.

AN ENJOYABGE EVENING

The Caledonian Society organised a very successful entertainment at the Town Hall last night in aid of the funds of the Beautifying Association. There was a very good attendance, and the programme met with very hearty approbation. The items were well diversified, and all the performers had very pleasing receptions. The evening was pronounced a very enjoyable one. Miss Shand was the only vocal soloist ; but the vocal numbers were supplemented by pleasing duets by Miss Davidson and Mrs Rowe. Misses Urquhart and G. Hackell gave some entirely new recitations, both being recalled. Another entertainer in the same category was Master G. Cullen —a budding Lauderite —whose items with the Doric burr quite captivated the audience, and lie gave five Scotch item Tho Highland dancing was very much appreciated. Miss and Master Gibbons gave the Fling, and Misses Oiblxms and Alva McTntosh, the Shaun Trans. Miss and Master Gibbons also gave the sword dance, and Miss Gibbons The Hornpipe. The item “to bring down the house” was the comic duo and clog dance by Misses Gibbons and Alva McIntosh. “Little Baggy Breeches.” Tills was done in costume and was quite a delightful pleasantry. There were several instrumental pieces during the evening. McLean’s quartette orchestra gave two spirited selections, and a visiting party, (Miss AViring, Mrs AVilsou and Mr Leitch). gave a trio (two violins and a piano). Misses Lawn and Paseoo played two pianoforte duets, and Messrs Gibbons (flute), and Lawn also gave a stirring instrumental number. Tho accompanists during the evening were Misses Jean Mclntosh, and Daly and Mrs Withers. Messrs Davidson. Lawn and Gibbons. During the evening, Mr G. Davidson, Chieftain of the Society, thanked the audience for their patronage, and the performers for their pleasing entertainment. Mr Davidson spoke of tho people exercising their citizenship in the right way. and helping where they could to promote the welfare of the town. He was plenscd to see so excellent a beginning, and hoped that the entertainment would he a forerunner of many to come, serving as they would not only to bring the townspeople mere and more together, hut helping also to bring out fresli talent in the place. The singing of- the-National Anthem closed a very successful entertainment.
