At a meeting of tne Hokitika bhipping Company's directors this morning a number ol oilers of boats of \aiying sizes were submitted from tralian and New Zealand sources. The directors, who had also the advice of Hon. H. L. Michel, considered the matter from various standpoints.. None of tin; -boats offered fitted in with the actual ieqd.frementfs ton- the combined i southern and northern trade, but yari- i ous suggestions to overcome the diffieul- ! tv were put forward. It was estimated 1 that additional capital would be required the present capital of the Company being exhausted. After deliberat- | ing on alternative proposals it was re- j solved to offer to the present share- j holders and to the public of the dis- ! trict at large, LI shares bearing a j preferential dividend of eight per cent, j as a means to provide the Company j with .the capital considered necessary i to acquire a steamer suitable for the j trade. It was decided to fix the ap- j plication lor shares at 6d per shaie, J that amount to lie refunded if the | project is not- proceeded with.
