GISBORNE HARBOUR SCHEME
GISBORNE, May 30
The Gisborne Harbour Board to-day decided to approve of Mr Reynold’s report, plans, and estimate for an outer harbour. The first instalment of the cost is £782,0000, and of the whole scheme the cost is £1,200,000. Hie decision is subject to a determination of the Supremo Court in connection with an originating summons issued by the Board for ascertaining if Mr George Lysnar has a claim against the Board under an agreement in respect to a scheme ho submitted to the Board.

To-night at a public meeting it was decided to bold the Jubilee of Invercargill Borough from September lltli to 17th., with a ‘‘Back to Invercargill” week.
RED CROSS CONFERENCE,
WELLINGTON, May 27
The annual conference of the New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross and Order of St John concluded yesterday. The annual report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted.
The following officers were elected President, Sir Heaton Rhodes; chairman of Executive Committee, Dr Collins ; vice-presidents, Messrs Gunson (Auckland), Flesher (Canterbury), Rev Bryan King (Otago), and one to be appointed by t.ho Wellington centre; Executive Committee, the president, four vice-presidents, Mr Tripp (chairman), Mrs Luke, and one representative from each centre.
The meeting approved the principle of sending a nurse to attend the next London session of the Nursing Division of the League of Rod Cross Societies in connexion with public health. ft was decided to leave the matter of comforts for mental patients to the discretion of each centre. Four thousand negatives of overseas soldiers’ graves having been received by the Defence Department, it was agreed that the Society should undertake the cost of having these printed.
It uas resolver! that the committee should communicate with the British Bed Cioss authorities regarding the tssuc of medals to Red Cross workers who had received no other decoration. The annual report states that there are 810 patients in military hospitals and sanatoria, and 221 ill civilian hospitals. The sum of ono thirty thousandth part of the surplus funds of the British Red Cross Society had been received by the New Zealand Society and placed in the Post Office Savings Bank, pending further action. The New Zealand Society, in conjunction with the Canadian Society, bad established an agency at Calais to assist New /Inlanders to find the graves of relatives. The credit balance of the Society at the bank amounts to £2553.
THEFTS OF GOVERNMENT

WELLINGTON, May 27
There have been so many thefts at the Government Buildings here recently that detectives have had to bo almost continuously employed there. There arc also numerous thefts of Government property from Parliament House when Parliaim'iit is in session. In the past crockery, cutlery, and stationery have found their way into private houses. Even food has been taken away. The annual cost to the country must be considerable. Under the new management of Bellamy’s the losses from that department are being gradually reduced.
A BOXER’S APPEAL
CHRISTCHURCH, May 30
At a meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Council, the appeal of Denny Murphy against his suspension by the Westport Association, was considered. The secretary read the statement forwarded by the association, the referee’s statement and the report of the medical officer who examined Murpliv, "lie claimed to have received a foul blow Murphy’s own statement and the report of two independent medical examiners.
It was decided that the decision of the Westport Association on the facts he upheld, and the appeal of Murphy was dismissed.
GLEESON AND WILLIAMS
CHRISTCHURCH, May 30
Glee son and Williams, the two Australian lightweights, who have been engaged to box in Christchurch next month, are known as “near champions.” Each has been the holder of the championship of New South Wales They are young, vigorous and capable boxers, and they come to the Dominion armed with the very highest credentials from Mr W. F. Corbett.
