The police have taken some steps to investigate but there certainly seems to have been no robbery anyway. The only justification for Hie police investigations (which Detective Young and Constable Rogers went to Stillwater to make yesterday) appears to have been a suspicion that somebody had tried to set the house of the. Stationmaster (Mr Wm. Fowler) afire. There appears, however, to have been at least something in the way of a fire started, but it probably was a Saturday night joke. It avus near the Stationmaster’s* house, but :t did not amount to anything. There appears further to he no reason why any incendiarism should have been attempted. Tho police are reticent, but they have evidently little to go on that would suggest anything serious. An ideal spirit for both sexes.—WOLFF'S SCI!NAPES.
