POLLARD’S PICTURES.

DOUBLE STAR PROGRAMME, MONDAY. On Monday next Pollards are showing a big double star programme headed by Olive Thomas in a Selzniclt comedy drama, “Upstairs and Down.” A thrill in every step going up—a laugh on every step coming down. Alice Joyce will he featured in the second big star “The Thoroughbred” or “The Sporting Duchess,” a screen version of the spectacular melodrama of the same name, which was produced at the Drury Lane theatre in London. The film version, made by Vitagraph, with Alice Joyce appearing in the stellar role, abounds with beautiful locations,- exquisite interiors and appropriate atmosphere. A race furnishes one of the picturesque backgrounds and the story is punctuated with dramatic thrills which keeps the spectator at strict attention. As in most Drury Lane melodramas, the action revolves around the blue-blooded aristocracy and red blooded horses, and tells how Muriel, the Duchess of Desborough, becomes the prey of a crooked gambler. The latter separates Muriel from her husband and causes the Duke’s horse “Comet” to he sold. The Duchess is disgraced, but manages to buy the horse, and enters him in the Derby. Step by step she tights her way back, and wins the position she has lost.

On Wednesday next Pollards are presenting a Select drama “Ruling Passions” starring Julia Dean.

McLEAN’S PICTURES.

BAND BENEFIT TO-NIGHT

At the Princess Theatre to-night Mr McLean will present a very fine programme headed by the stirring dramatic story “Let’s fie Fashionable.” It is a fine film starring Douglas McLean and Doris May, two of tho most popular screen artists of the day. The attractive serial “Elmo the Fearless” will be advanced a- further stage th e orchestra will supply new music.

Coming Tuesday.—“ Pink Tights.”
