ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET.

MARKET SHOWS IMPROVEMENT

CHRISTCHURCH, Alay 26

Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows regarding tbeir stuck sale yesterday:—

Store Sheep.—A small market and the demand generally was equal to last week’s rates, with a slight improvement in host wethers, which sold up to 16s 9d ; others 11s to 13s 6d; best 2-tooth ewes up to 16s 6d; sound mouth ewes to 14s; others from 8s 6d. Best store lambs to 13s.

Store Cattle.—A very small yarding, mostly nondescript sorts and dry cows. One line of 2 and 3 year steers made £5 2s 6d, cows from 20s to 27s 6d. No other quotable lines-were offering, but the general tone of the market was very dull, and there was no competition. Beef.—The yarding was smaller than last week, and the quality generally indifferent. The market opened easier, but improved towards the end. Any good quality met with good competition, but inferior sorts and old cows weie hard to sell. Prime steers £l3 5s to Cls, medium £9 5s to £l3; others £5 to £9. Best heifers to £lO 2s 6d, prime £7 17s 6d to £9 10s. Light and inferior 04 7s Od to £7. Prime cows £6 to £8 15s, one extra special to £ls 10s; medium £4 10s to £5 15s; lighter and inferior £2 10s 6d to £4.

Alutton.—A very large yarding and the market generally was firmer, although there was no outstanding improvement in price. Bioth butchers and freezers were bidding with more confidence. Tho market opened ibout the same, but again showed an inn.).m cment towards the end. Best wet fin.23s fid to 27s 3d, prime 19s to 22s 9d ; medium Ifis fid'to 18s Od; lighter 14s to 15s lOd. Best ewes to 20s Id, K nr.c 14s tp 18s fid; medium 11s to 13s fid: others 8s to. 10s fid. There was r.o change in the lamb market.
