BOY -SCOUTS.

WELLINGTON, May 25,

The annual conference of the Dominion Boy Scouts’ Association opened toLord Jellicoe, who presided as Chief Scout said he knew so well that a Boy Scout movement was one of the most important taking place in the Empire to-day. The one thing more than another that would lead the people of this great Empire in a direction in lay not only right but their prosperity, was to bring up the youth of the Empire in their duties of citizenship.

Regarding. the scheme adopted at a recent meeting of the Producers’ Committee, respecting the. establishment of a producers’ line of steamers, the details were unfolded to the Acting-Prime Minister, who said he would lay it before the Cabinet. Sir F. Bell stated that the scheme had not yet been considered by the Cabinet, but it would lie as soon as possible. It would -equire full Cabinet to deal with such a matter.

WANGANUI, May 25

At a meeting of the executive committee of the North Island Brass Bands Association it was decided to allow “Our Choice” for the quickstep trios, quartettes and solos at the Wellington contest in February next, but all selections are to be “test.”

DUNEDIN, May 25

Angus McDonald, employed as engine driver at Waitai sawmill, shot himself to-day with a. point 22 rifle. At the inquest a verdict of suicide was returned.

Alfred W. J. Maitland, a married man and a returned soldier, was run over by a train between Caversham and Dunedin to-night and killed. The body was fearfully mangled. He was not seen by the engine driver, and it is unknown how he got on the line.

FOUND DROWNED. CHRISTCHURCH, May 25 The body of Ida Jewell, aged 35 was found floating in the surf at New Brighton to-day. She had been 'suffering from nervous trouble.
