The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Westland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, submitting amended scale of levies which was received and approved. From mortgagees, Totara "Hall for deed of release.—Received. From Hokitika High School Board asking Council to appoint a representative.—Received. Tt was resolved that Mr T. W. Bruce be reapi>ointed. From Matthew Nolan applying for a slaughtering license.—Received and recommended. From Jas Thompson aplying for a slaughtering license.—Received and recommended. It was resolved to arrange with the Bank of New Zealand for the usual overdraft, not to exceed 11500'. The Public Works committee reported on work done since last meeting and recommended (1) Procuring portable forge for Borough use. (2) A second pelton wheel be erected in the Borough qard with which to drive a circular saw, grinding stone etc. (3) Repairing Stewart St. between Gibson and Fraser Streets, estimated cost £ls. Report received, approved and adopted. It was reported that the fence erectocl 'across Bonar St. by 'Ha.nsbairy Bros, without the consent of the Council' had not been removed although notice had been served on them K requesting removal of same, and it was resolv°d to instruct the maintenance man to remove fence at Hansbury Bros.’ ex pense. The Cemetery Committee reported having visited the Cemetery nid recommended that same be cleaned up as the overgrowth was considerable. The committee was authorised to give effect to the recommendation immediately. It was resolved to call applications for a Ranger to deal with the wandering stock nuisance, applications returnable at next meeting. The application of M. Nolan for lease of an area adjoining Cemetery reserve was granted at a rental of £2 per annum. Messrs Stuart and Chapman Ltd . asked for a better title to an area of (15 acres leased by them from the Council and for permission to erect workmen’s dwelling thereon. The consideration of same was held over till next meeting, and Mr Chapman be asked to attend and discuss same with Council
