A CONSUMPTION CURE. LONDON, May 21 British specialists, including Sir Bruce Porter, visited Geneva to investigate Doctor Spahlinger’s laboratory. They examined every stage of the manufacture of the serum, for the cure of consumption, including antitoxin for bad cases and vaccine for chronic cases. Dr Spahlinger says he has no intention • of keeping the remedy secret. Publicity is only deferred owing to the scarcity of the serum. The British specialists were impressed and will report in the medical journals. ADOPTION OF CHILDREN.

LONDON, May 21. i. The Departmental Committee on the adoption of Children recommends the passage of an Act giving legal recognition to adoption, and to securing the adopter and the child rights and duties similar to natural parents and children, also State supervision of adoptions which do not receive formal legal sanction; also legitimisation of children horn out of wedlock by a subsequent marriage of the parents. The Commit-* tee calls attention to the great increase in adoptions owing to bereavements during the war and the desirableness of protecting adopters against parents claiming the adopted child when it reaches the wage-earning age.

j MEMORY OF LORD NELSON. . ** | LONDON, May 21. i Lord Spencer has handed to the “Times” three unpublished letters by Horatio Nelson. They were written to Lord Spencer when aboard the San Josef, between 1797 and 1801. The first two eulogise the sea-going qualities of the ship, which Nelson and captured in the Battle of St Vincent. He urges that he be allowed to take the San Josef on a Baltic expedition. With a eharadteristic touch, he says: “My V only desire is to have a ship which will carry me swiftly alongside the Russians. I long to keep the San Josef for a knock at a French first-rater when we have settled our difference with Paul.” Nelson adds; “If it- be a sin to core? glory. X am the most offending' spul alive.”
