WELLINGTON, May 17
The Wellington City Corporation recently issued £12,000 worth of debentures to augment the fund required to meet the cost of the loan proposals reeently sanctioned. Of these debentures £SOOO worth have a currency of 20 years and the balance of 10 years, and inteicst on the latter practically amounts In 5 f>er cent. The slump in the butter market is causing some / anxiety for the future. Up to next August the producers are safe. It is what is going to happen in the new season that is worrying the trade. The imperial Government is holding a very considerable quantity of butter? and unless this can be cleared up before our senson begins, it will he used as a factor in depressing prices. It is useless trying to predict the course of’the butter and cheese markets, hut. as the tendency of practically all markets is downwards, there is little hope of dairy producers receiving more than, say, Is 6d for buttei.
