The Unionists are confident of winning 36 seats.

An armed hand eommamdeored a crowded passenger train at Balia ghatierin, in Roscommon. They then drove to the police barracks, and using the engine as a fort, they opened an intense fire. The police forces replied, finally compelling the attackers do start the train and escape. Some passengers had a terrifying experience when lying down in the carriages under a hail of bullets. The Sinn Feiners shot dead Joseph Haydan, farmer, who was in bed at Rock, near Dunganong, and fatally stabbed his brother James.
