GABRIEL’S GULLY DIAMOND JUBILEE.

The following cordial message on behalf of Westland County to the Mayor of. Lawrence was dispatched to-day, this being the aniversary of the Gabriel’s Gully rush in Central Otago, sixty years ago:—
On tile occasion of the diamond jubilee of Gabriel’s Gully gold-rush, desire on behalf of Westland Mineis extend cordial greetings to assembled pioneers and to say how greatly the spirit of the old miners of the past is appreciated in this day and generation when there is the call for sturdiness of purpose combined with loyalty and affection for the country we live in, and a desire to set/, its richest resources revealed and become the medium for general progress and prosperity in the commonweal. Trust pioneers have pleasant reunion recalling old friendships and the happy days of the old comradeship when th e country was in the making, and; the goldminer played the most conspicuous part of ail in bringing New Zealand to the forefront, peopling it with the right class of sturdy, fearless colonists who built up a healthy democracy which has given New Zealand such world-wide celebrity. The Diamond Jubilee of Gabriel’s Gully goldfield was cerebrated at Lawrence to-day in glorious weather. There is a good representation of 1861 and 1862 Diggers. Hon J. Anderson, Minister of Mines, represented the Government. A number of members of both branches of the Legislation also attendod. *
