VARIOUS DOMINION ITEMS.
[BY TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, May 18. • The divorce suit, John Patrick v. Verone Patrick, on the ground of deserting, had unusual features, both parties being theatricals, 'and the question of domicile was raised. Respondent at one time was a dentist, lie was on the stage in Australia with the petitioner, who was a daughter of Claude Meynell, the theatrical manager. Patrick made a great success. His New Work earnings were €SO a week, but he sent her nothing. Judge Sim has a doubt as to the Court’s jurisdiction on the question of domicile. The case was adjourned.
SHIPPING COLLISION
GISBORNE, May 18
No further light is thrown on the cause of the collision between the Whalcatane and Admiral Codrington in the roadstead. In some quarters it is believed the 'VV'hakatane was about to leave the bay at the time. The Admiral Codrington is still under shelter at Nick’s Head, with her stem twisted, but is making no water. It is understood there is nothing to prevent her continuing loading when the weather moderates. The part of the vessel affected is only the forepeak, containing ship’s stores and chains. Th e Whakatnne went out to sea and two hours after the mishap, she wirelessed back: “Going on to Auckland.” The latest wireless from her this evening stated she is having no difficulty in keeping down the water.
A BIG STEAL
WELLINGTON,, May 8. At the,.Magistrate’s Court to-day Arthur Marryatt pleaded guilty to stealing, between Septemlier Ist. 1920, and May 4th, 1921, the sum of £3575 ]ls 3d the porperty of the New Zealand Life Insurance Department.
He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence bail being allowed in the sum of £IOOO and two sureties of £750 each.
The police said Marryatt bad givei them every assitanco.
SUPER ANNUATION RON USES
WELLINGTON, May 18
Cabinet lias decided to continue the cost of living bonus to the widows and children of superannuated civil servants who arc receiving small allowances, and to continue the bonus to superannuated male servants in necessitous cases, such bonus not to exceed £4O in any case, and not make the total receipt more than £KX) per annum. Each case will he decided on its merits.

LIFT AVELI- FATALITY
AUCKLAND, May 18
Frederick Augustus Pooley, cleaner, at the Chief Post Office, was killed in the lift-well this afternoon. The liftman dropped a, key down the well, and the deceased went to recover it while the lift was ascending. Apparently lie was struck by the descending counterweight, as lie was found lying seriously injured about the head, fie died on going to the hospital.
UNEMPLOYMENT IX CHRISTC' II URCH. • ('IIBISTCIIUIU'H, .Miiy 18 'l'lio unemployment position was discussed by Canterbury -Members of Parliament to-day when it was decided tc inform Cabinet that the unemployment trouble was developing, and to ask what steps it was intended to take to meet the position. Mr I). G. Sullivan (Labour M.P.) said that lately Ids holtshad been besieged by civilians and returned soldiers wanting work.
DISPUTE ON STEAMER. FIREMEN’S HOURS. CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. A dispute occurred on tbe collier Whangape at Lyttelton to-day. The firemen have given notice of their intention to sign off. The men complain that the half-hour allowed for cleaning up and bagging ashes is not sufficient, and that an hour should be allowed. A claim is also being made for waiting time. The vessel will be unable to get away until to-morrow.
MISSING STORES CASE. WELLINGTON, May 18. The missing stores cases were again before the Supreme Court to-day, wherein four members of the N.Z.R.A. wero charged with theft of stores from their barracks. The jury, however again disagreed after a retirement of four hours. ( Mr Fair (the Crown Law Office) then asked whether the third trial would serve the interests of justice. Mr Perry, however, asked for the discharge of the accused. Justice Hosking said ho questioned whether the jury had really helped the accused by disagreeing. His decision will bo given to-morrow'. FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT. DUNEDIN, May 18. A motor car employed in the Rox-burgh-Alexandra mail service capsized about a mile from Alexandra, and a Chinaman, Sue You, was killed. The driver and other passengers escaped with shock and bruises.
