A “Runabout” Aeroplane
AUSTIN WHIPPERS FOR NEW ZEALAND. The day of the “air runabout” has dawned in New Zealand with the importation of two Austin Wnippets by ah Auckland and a Hamilton resident respectively. One of the machines is stated to have been delivered in Auckland already, while the other has arrived at Wellington for transhipment to Hamilton, where'lt will he delivered to Mr H. H. Shaw. The Whippet is a single-seater aeroplane, with a speed of from 35 to. 90 miles an hour. It is fitted with a 45-horse power Anzani engine, giving 30 miles to the gallon of petrol, and using a gallon of oil an hour. It has a flight duration of two hours. Tho folding wings enable it to bo stored in an ordinary motor garage 18ft long by 9ft wide by Bft high. The landing speed is 35 miles an hour. The machine can climb 5000 ft in eight minutes and 10,000 feet in 18 minutes. It is particularly strong, being constructed with steel tubes throughout. Accommodation for luggage is provided.
