RAILWAYMEN’S EMBARGO. LONDON, May 17 It is understood that fresh difficulties have arisen regarding the joint coal embargo delayed a conference of railway transporters. Some of the latter say they think their whole stultified by Mr Hodges’s ironical declaration that their assistance is “nothing more than a splendid ges--> ture.”
THE COAL STRIKE. LONDON, May 16. Unofficial conversations between responsible leaders, owners, miners and Government representatives have given rise to optimistic feelings. Tiie .conference between the railwaymen and transporters, arranged for to-day, has not materialised, without reasons for its abandonment. Much coal is being shipped, standing the embargo. **
