FRANCO-BRITISH RELATIONS. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) PARIS, May 18 It appears unlikelyHhat M. Briand and Mr Lloyd George will meet this week-end. The debate in the Chamber of Deputies on the London''Conference is expected to be continued. A Saturday to Monday conference will probably be held next week. “Le Temps” in an article criticising Air Lloyd George, says the truth is these conferences have become unpopular in France. It is quite idle for any conference to give a decision regarding Silesia until England has sent sufficient troops to assure the maintenance of order, and the execution of what is desired.
LLOYD GEORGE AND FRENCH PRESS. (Received this day at 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, May 18 Hon Lloyd George, in a statement to the Press, adhered to the declaration lie made in the House of Commons on the subject of Upper Silesia. He declared that the almost unanimous approval of America, Italy, and Belgium showed that the great nations, which had stood beside France in the West, meant to interpret the Treaty of Versailles fairly. He warned the French press that the habit of treating every expression of Allied opinion, which did not coincide with their own, as impertinence was fraught with mischief. Such attitude, .if persisted in, would be fatal to anv Entente.
