- ATTEMPT ON GREENWOOD. LONDON, May L 5. There was an attempt to murder the Irish Chief Secretary, Sir Hamar Greenwood. Some rebels lired a volley into a motor car, but Greenwood was hot inside. The driver narrowly escaped. CONFLICT’S IN IRELAND. LONDON, May 15. Many outrage.- occurred during the weekend in Ireland and England. A big force of Republicans attacked the police barracks in Clonakilty, Bandon and Courtmacherry (Cork), simultaneously. Fighting at Bandon was particularly severe. The police and soldiers kept sweeping the streets with machine gun fire. A private named Shepherd, who was a member of a party guarding some police and soldiers wh-le they were playing football, was shot dead. Three Sinn Feiners murdered a head constable named Benson, at Tralee. living into bis body while prostrate. Intermittent (icing occurred in Tralee throughout the night.

- LONDON, May 16. ■Week-end conflicts in Ireland resulted in thirty-three deaths, the highest number recorded. Some ainlmshers fatally shot a district Inspector named Blake, also Airs Blake Captain Cornwallis and Lieut McCree•y, near Oort, in Galway, as they were motoring homewards after a m>cial visit. Thirty armed men attacked six unarmed soldiers walking on a road near Bantry, and killed three and wounded a fourth. Eight police, two soldiers, and four civilians, who were not Sinn Feiners were killed during the weekend, and twelve were wounded. Four rebels were killed and six capturd.

The “‘Freeman’s Journal” declaresthat Mr Lloyd George, speaking in his office at the House of Commons on the 3rd of May, to Mr Glynn, ex-Governer of New York, offered to meet Mr de Valera, and any Irish leaders unconditionally. Air Glynn had this offer conveyed to Air de Valera, who has now replied that if the Premier makes the statement publicly he will be an swered publicly. v
