Miss Rachel Mandl (Hokitika) was hostess on Friday at a tea at the Beresford given for a- number of her Christchurch friends. A big table set in the reception room was artistically arranged. The death of Mr A. Main, an old resident of Reefton, took place on Sunday, at the age of 83 years. He carue to the Coast overland from Lyttelton, travelling to Hokitika on foot, arriving here in 1865 he/ore the township was surveyed. The Kanieti diggings broke out a little inter and Mr Main started hlaeksmithing there. He remained there about two years until the diggings got a little slack, and went to Ross to work for the Morning Star Co.
