[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT. CRUISER CHATHAM TIMARU, May 16. The Cruiser Chatham (irrifred from Napier direct last evening, arid berthed at, the wharf, where she will remain till Thursday. The voyage was very rough. A series of entertainments has been arranged for the visitors.
A MAN SHOT. DUNEDIN, May 16. Alfred Pottiuger, fourth engineer of the steamer Mahia, lying at Port Chalmers was shot in the chest with a small calibre revolver on Saturday evening by Charles Howard Tipping, sixth engineer, as a result of a quarrel. The injured man was removed to the Dunedin Hospital. Tipping was arrested. ANGRY BAKERS UNION. CHRISTCHURCH, May 16. The Bilkers’ and Pastry Cooks’ Union resolutioned strongly protesting against the decision of the Arbitration Court to cancel g 2s bonus previously granted and refusal to award the new bonus of 3s, which the Government Statistician showed was due. They also resolutioned recording ft protest against the attitude of Mr McCullough in suggesting the Court’s decision, and that it has iio confidence in him as its representative.
