01’ TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. THE SOCIALIST MEETING. v ßeceived This Day at 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 16. In anticipation of lively proceedings, fifty thousand people attended the Domain demonstration. Socialist speakers inarched ill, attended by a big bodyguard who massed round the platforms and these were hacked by a strong body of police. A notable feature was that there was not a singly red flag visible. The crowd was largely composed of loyalists who heckled the speakers, but beyond that the demonstration passed off peacefully. The loyalists let off steam at meetings o f their own where Union Jack’s were much in evidence. At night they demonstrated outside the buildings „where the Socialists were holding a meeting. The police prevented an invasion of the premises.

A DOMAIN GATHERING. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 16. Socialist and Labour organisations, with the exception of the Australian Labour Party, held a largely attend 31 meeting in the Domain and carried motions in favour of the rights of fr 'e speech. A force of police numbering four hundred were present.
