WAIMAIItI COUNTY COUNCIL’S DECISION.

(Lyttelton Times.) Liquor is to bo banished from the cupboards of the Waimairi County* Council. The matter was dealt with at last night’s meeting of the council. “There is a notice of motion by Mr F. Sisson,” said the chairman (Mr W. P. Spencer), “that in future no more beer or spirits be kept on the premises.” Mr Sisson: I beg leave to withdraw that. “I am sorry to see Mr Sisson back down,” said Mr J. Seymour. “I seconded the motion. Wo all recognise that we have been spending too much in the past, and it would lie one way of curtailing expenses. We can cut the beer out.” Mr C. E. Cross asked lhat the matter should be discussed in committee. “We don’t want to discuss anything in committee,” saiid Mr Sisson. i Tho Chairman: The motion has been mentioned in open meeting. Mr Cross: It will bo reported now! Mr Sisson: Tf my seconder does not wish, I cannot withdraw the motion. The Chairman said that Mr Sisson had merely given notice of motion. Therefore Mr Seymour could not have been the seconder.

Mr W. J. Walter said that the matter had been embodied in the mimites as a motion which had been carried, and the minutes had been confirmed. The Chairman: Well J don’t want liquor, anyhow. “I think it should he cut out,” said Mr Seymour. “1 am quite prepared to go home on an empty stomach, although T. am not a teetotaller. The Chairman: Wc Have not lost much money in spirits, but I think wc would fare just as well on a cup of tea. No further comment was made.
