WOMAN LOSES £7OO.
AUCKLAND, May 13. | A woman travelling on a ferry boat this morning, placed a paper parcel : containing £7OO in notes on a seat beside her. She got off the boat without it, and, on rushing hack shortly afterwards, found the paper wrapping beside the seat, hut no sign of the notes. EDUCATIONAL MATTERS. WELLINGTON, May 13. A complaint has been made, and he thought rightly, said Hon Mr Parr, to a deputation from the Technical School Managers’ and Directors’ conference, that some Departments of State, particularly the Railways, Post and Telegraph, and Public Works, did not suffi--1 ciently recognise the work done in technical schools. He hnd made strong representations to the Railway Department that when any boy had put in two or three years in technical schools that time should he allowed for. Mr Scott (President of the Conference) : They do allow for it in the Marino Department. The report dealing with regulations affecting secondary education was adopted after discussion at the annual Conference of Secondary Schools. It expressed approval of the grading scheme. It suggested that each year of service in the Expeditionary Force should count for two years of superannuation. It also suggested that larger grants bo made to single men and women with dependents.
JAVA EXHIBITION
WELLINGTON, May 13
It is announced by the Minister of Industries and Commerce that the second Netherlands, Indian- Industrial Fair will he held tin Java in September of this year. There will be no restriction on foreign exhibits of footwear, preserves, building material, etc., now admitted, which was not the case before. The Department is advising manufacturers and others interested. If any desire is evinced to participate, the Department will co-operate with the exhibitors. mai———■ ■■■
