WELLINGTON, May 12. The Supreme Court hearing was concluded of the charge against Alfred Charles Morris, of stealing £ls, the property of George Buett, proprietor of the Trocadero Hotel. Justice Hocking said that three statements made by the accused were not those of an innocent man. A verdict of guilty was returned. Accused was remanded for sentence. Lewis Benjamin pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting, and was remanded for sentence. A manslaughter charge against Charles William Taylor was proceeded with. It was allegd that accused by negligent driving, caused the death of n lad named John Harry Grayudler. A charge of a similar nature was laid' under the excessive speed provisions of the municipal by-laws. Justice Hosking said the trial should not be dis- , turbed .by the two alternative methods ' of killing the boy. The by-law was simply a standard of care which the jury might adopt. Accused said he had been driving a oar for years. This was his first accident. At the time he passed the tramcar he was travelling about fifteen miles an hour, the speed registered on the speedometer. To His Honour: I did not know of an eight-mile per hour limit. In the manslaughter charge the jury failed to agree. A new trial was ordered. Arthur Maryatt, of the Government Life Insurance Department, was again before the Court to-day, charged with theft of moneys. The police applied for another remand, and stated tV should be gone into next week. Maryatt was remanded, bail being fixed at two sureties of £SOO each .
