MOVES FOR SETTLEMENT. LONDON PRESS REPORTS. LQNDON, May 11 The Times statesSinn Fein is prepared to abandon the claim for an independent Irish Republic if Ireland is granted fiscal autonomy. A strong peace movement is now making progress. Mr De Valera’s agents are visiting London to explore the possibilities of suggesting a truce on the basis that the troops and the Black and Tans shall be confined to their barracks during the Parliamentary elections. The Government, in reply (says The Times) asks what assurance will be forthcoming that the truce would not he used for reorganising Sinn Fein

forces. The Times adds that a fairly hopeful opinion prevails in Government circles. It is" not suggested that a truce would affect the elections. In the elections Sinn Feiners are certain to be returned unopposed in nearly all electorates. The Times says that it is believed that once peace were reestablished, the people would jnsist on its retention.
