MAGISTRATE’S COURT
THURSDAY, MAY 12. AFTERNOwN SITTING. (Before H. W. Bundle, Esq., S.M.) His Worship resumed bis seat at 2.10 p.m. LICENSING ACT. The Police charged a resident with being on licensed premises (Club Hotel) during prohibited hours, who pleaded not guilty, and called evidence in support of his claim that it was purely a business visit. His Worship held that the defendant bad shown a reasonable excuse and the case would be dismissed. A charge against another defendant of being on licensed premises (Club Hotel) was defended on the claim that ho was a boarder. His Worship accepted the explanation, but stated that the licensee should be careful to book up intending lodgers. The charge would be dismissed. CIVIL. Westland Charitable Aid Board (Mr Park) v. Tlios. Blanchard, claim £lB4 l()s, maintenance of wife at hospital. Judgment for plaintiff with costs £8 12s. K. A. Bnucke (Mr Wells and Air Sellers) v. Emily Henderson (Mr Murdoch) claim and counter claim. After the case had been opened his Worship said in view of it taking up a considerable amount of time, Counsel should agree on certain facts to shorten the bearing. The case was then adjourned till next Court day.
