LONDON, May 10 Regarding the hours question at matches, the London “Daily Chronicle” asks whether the Australians, while inaugurating six hours’ play daily ‘ will guarantee the spectators an increased J production. It asserts that dearer seats and shorter hours are encroachments on public enjoyment. “But all would be forgiven,” it says, “if plenty of runs are made and plenty of wickets taken. If the cricketers will speed up their production, they will be granted more time off.” CRICKET DISCUSSIONS. LONDON, May 11 Australian representatives conferred with the English Cricket Board of Control and advocated the Australians mode of selecting Test match umpires, instead of the English system of picking fresh pairs out of a hat for each match.

The Board, however, agreed to adopt a scheme of balloting for Test umpires. An informal meeting of an advisory committee for the counties discussed the question of hours of play for county matches. No decision was reached, the counties not being fully represented.
