PLEA FOR AGREEMENT

Lord Weir iii a ineinfifahdum to Gbvernment pleads for both parties to abandon the present contentions and reexamine the whole coal situation. He suggests a return to an eight hour day, application of a minimum wage, restoration of piecework and wages revision monthly in accordance with the cost of living.
RED FLAG AT ALDERSHOT
LONDON, May 9
A number of reservists, who have been callfcd up under the new Strike Regulations, including a proportion of discontented miners, ran amok on Saturday night at the military headquarters at Aldershot. They were halfdrunken men.
The men waved red flags. They rushed into tke main streets and smashed shop windows worth two thousand pounds. Their (action was in revenge for an earlier attack made on a military party when leaving a dance.
COOKS AND STEWARDS DISPUTE
LONDON, May 9
Some members signed on as stewards and cooks at old rates, for the purposes of sailing on scheduled dates. The Union’s manifesto instructs members to refuse to sign on, on any terms, after to-morrow. The dispute must he settled nationally, not piecemeal. THE FLOODED COLLIERIES. LONDON, May 9. Air Bridgeman stated that 46 collieries wore flooded, that employed 24,656 men.
