FRENCH FORCES START. LONDON, May 3.
The latest news is that a force of French troops has started for the Ruhr They comprise a division of cavalry, and are commanded by General Simon. They left Mayenne last night, travelling in fifteen trains.
AMERICAN ADVICE TO GERMANY WASHINGTON, May 2.
The United States State Department announces that it has informed Germany that the German reparations offer recently cabled (on April 26th), would not he acceptable to the Allies, and that the United States cannot therefore communicate it to the Allies. Germany is urged, however, to make new, definite, and adequate proposals directly to the Allies.
AMERICA’S STAND. WASHINGTON, May 2,
It is now learned authoritatively that the U.S. Secretary of State, • Mr Hughes lias comnnmicaed to the French Ambassador, M. Jusserand, a definite intimation that the United States is opposed to any steps which will prostrate Germany.
NEW GERMAN NOTE. - WASHINGTON, May 2. Confirmation of the report that Germany has sent a new Note to the United States is still lacking.
FEELING IN.GERMANY. LONDON, 'May 2
The “Daily Chronicle’s” Berlin correspondent states-.—“ Pressure is being brought to bear on the Government to modify their attitude regarding reparations. “The industrial magnates are at last thoroughly alarmed. They now realise the Entente means what it says and fear they will find their businesses practically under foreign control.” There is reason to believe the Government will not resist the magnates influence, but will give way to the Allies’ ultimatum.
AMERICA’S NEW LINE. WASHINGTON, May 2.-
The “lrreconcibles” among the Republican Senators are confident that President Harding has abandoned his intention to re-submit an amended Versailles Treatv to the Senate.
The Republicans are planning a newresolution declaring that “it is the senso of the Senate that the American troops should bo withdrawn from Germany.” It is also said that two new peace treaties will be negotiated, one will be with Germany, and the other with the Allies.
