One hundred thousand attended the Mav Day demonstration in Hyde Park. There were many processions with festooned lorries and bands. None of the well-known labour leaders were present. They explained that they were engaged in propaganda work elsewhere. The crowd keenly heckled some of tbe speakers regarding tbe action of, the Triple Alliance iri the miners’ strike.

(Received This Day at 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May I Mr Renwick, the “Daily Chronicle ’ Hamburg correspondent, after visit ng the shipping centres finds the leaders of industry are of opinion that the mercantile fleet, within a decade, will be of at least 5,250,000 tons, that is, equal to Germany’s pre-war fleet. Though only half a million tons are at present in the docks, these arc once more bustling with life, through most of tbe shins being chartered. Experts think it is possible within five years, to double Germany’s shipbuilding capacity. A number of war vessels have been adapted to trade uses. Apart from a Government grant of 17, thousand million devoted to shipbuilding, various companies are devoting big sums out of their profits to the’ same object. (Received This Day at 12.20 p.m.' CAIRO, May 1.
During a demonstration at Tantah, a disorderly section attacked and drove back the police, who intervened. When the Governor appealed to the demonstrators to disperse, his motor-car was seized and burned and the Governor imprisoned in bis residence. The police reinforced, fired upon the mob killing two or three and wounding several. Egyptian troops were sent from Cairo to the scene.
