LORD DERBY’S MISSION. LONDON, April 29. The Times states that Lord Derby has had a lengthy interview with Mr ■Lloyd George, and he now goes again to Dublin, in a few days, with certain definite proposals, when he will meet Mr de Valera, the Sinn Fein Presided TALK OF COMPROMISE. LONDON, April The “Times” says: The prospects o! a peace in Ireland -ire now brighter. Lord Derby states lie is profoundly impressed by the manifest desire for peace amongst the Irish leaders, who hitherto had been regarded as extremists.
This view is confirmed by others. On his last visti to Ireland, Lori Derby was asked to bring a written offer signed by Mr Lloyd George. This wits stated to lie impossible. Lord Derby is now empowered to speak as an accredited envoy of the Engliili i ’.overnm»nt. GOVERNMENT OFFERS. LONDON*, April 29. In regard to the Government - overtures to Sinn Fein there are many rumours current regarding the Government’s proposed terms of settlement.
__ One rumour is that the police and the soldiers are to be confined to the barracks during the time the elections are on, provided that the Sinn Feineis undertake not to interfere with people freely voting. Another rumour is that a referendum to be compulsory, is to be held in Ulster every three ty six years on the question of a single Irish Parliament for all In land, and the inclusion of Ulster therein. IRISH PARLIAMENT. LONDON, April 30In connection with the Irish Parliament elections, a proclamation has been issued by the Dail Kireann. It instructs the people not to participate in the Irish senate flections, in southern Inland as well as Ulster. This is because the majority of the Irish Senate will not be elected members but nominated ones. Therefore its members will net 1 be representative of Irish public opinion. THE NEW VICEROY. LONDON, April 29. Lord Edmund Talbot (new Viceroy of Ireland) has received a - Viscount Fresh, ex-Viceroy of Ireland has received a new title, being create an Karl. MILITARY RAID. LONDON, April 30. A military raid was made on a Dublin building. It resulted in the capture of 40 men. They are members of the Republican army.
