BRITISH LABOUR CRISIS.

Though the details of to-Jay’s conference are not y;et being published, the consensus of opinion is that a settlement is nearer and it is now possible, the men may return to the pits towards the end of next week. Meanwhile the Government are conducting an energetic publicity campaign urging the public to economise #oal. They suggest one hot meal daily and no hot baths, if necessary to go dirty. The public should utilse communal bakehouses and restaurants as far as possible.
Government also appeal to the proprietors of dancing halls not to arrange parties during the crisis. The Royal Academy banquet, fixed for the 29th., has been abandoned, owing to the strike.
In many districts, home? which were built on war profits, are disappearing piccemal. now a chair, now a table. There is a glut of sealskin jackets and gramaphones at the pawnbrokers. TF' only lucky folk are those who discovered amt worked outcrops, some yielding up to fifteen foils daily, arousing the anger of other workmen.
