- THE ONGAROTO MURDER. CORONER’S INQUEST. ROTORUA, April 27. The Coroner’s inquest on Patrick Ricjiard Elliott, killed -at Ongarolo, and the Magisterial enquiry into the charge against Hakainra Te Kalin for murdering him were resumed. Mr Kenrick, the Magistrate, and 'Mr McDonnell, Acting Coroner sstting together. It is expected to conclude on Friday. There arc 3-5 witnesses and the evidence to-day showed that Elliott and Hakarara went shooting on Easter Sunday. Elliott did not return and two shots almost together were hoard cn Sunday afternoon. A witness had called at their house on Monday morning, but found no one there. Hakarara being found in the house on Tuesday said that Elliott had returned to the latter's house late on Sunday night. Dr. Bertram stated that the postmortem had shown a double wound, which had caused instant death at the back of Elliott’s neck, one part of the, wound being longer than the other in dieating either that one barrel was a choke-bore or that two shots bad lx'cn fired at different distances. The doctor found pellets of shot .n the wound which couldn’t In l self-inflicted.
