[I)Y TELEGRAPH—rER PRESS association] SOUTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK. BLENHEIM, April 26 A Parliamentary Party comprising .Messrs George Hunter, R. F. Bollard, M. Hawker, F. E. Hockley, D. Jones, T. Burnett and A. Hamilton, arrived at Picton this morning and were entertained at breakfast. —A-civic welcome was tendered at Blenheim and the party left almost directly on a tour of inspection of the route for tlu> South Island Main Trunk railway. A conference will be held at Kaikoura to-night. A SWIMMING RECORD. WELLINGTON, April 27. Swimming in the tepid baths last night Ludy Danger broke the New Zealand record for 220 yards, by 5 seconds, his time being 2.32. This is only five seconds short of the world s record.
REVISED TRACK CHART. LONDON, March 9. Li the House of Lords last evening, Lord Sydenham enquired whether there could be any objection to the publication of the truck charts of the battle of Jutland, prepared by Captain J. b. T. Harper’s Committee, on the understanding that no commentary was issued, but only a note explaining tlio sources of the information on which those charts were based. Lord Lee, hirst Lord of the Admiralty, said, they were all anxious that the public generally should he in possession of the I idlest and most accurate information with regard to whnt took place at the greatest of naval battles i for more than a century. But it was ■ not easy to ascertain the facts, and | particularly the exact movement of j ships in the course of an action under | conditions of visibility and other oirI cumstanees which made it peculiarly difficult to produce track charts that S would be accepted as correct. Reports of the various officers were collected and examined, and it was found hv {he navigating authorities at the Admiralty that there were obvious errors in some of the charts. The Admiralty formed the opinion that revision was necessary, and that when the charts were published they should he published by the authority of the Admiralty; and not of one particular officer. The revisions, us far iff th e Board of Admitally was concerned, had been carried out. With regard to the question of immediate publication. Lord Lee added that there was difficulty, as a very clear and specific undertaking was given by his predecessor that no new publication with regard to the conduct or history of the. Battle of Jutland should he made without it first being submitted to Lord .Jellicoe for anv observation he might wish to make upon it. He thereforefelt that it was absolutely necessary that the revised track chart, which has just been completed, should be forwarded to Lord Jellicoe. As soon as they were in possession oi Gird Jellicoe’s observations, if any, upon the revised chart, they would ho in a position he hoped, to make it public or to supply it to all who might wish to) see it, ■
