Paddon and McDevitt are both reported in excellent fettle for Saturday’s race for the State sculling championship. SOLDIER. SETTLEMENTS. SYDNEY, April 27. Some soldier settlements are in sore straits. They complain that the amounts allowed to establish and develop their homes, and see them through the early stages of the struggle are quite inadequate, and they are now left practically without means for present subsistence. Failing further Government assistance they are appealing to the public to help them. ACCIDENTAL DEATH. PERTH, April 27 The jury found that the aviator, Lieut Mclntosh’s death was accidental, and no one was blameable, disproving the theory that the mishap was caused through a passenger standing up in the car. WOOL MARKET. This Day at 10.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, April 27. The Federal Cabinet has considered the various proposals to prevent the collapse of the wool market and possible resultant panic. It is understood it has been decided to introduce legislation dealing with the position. NEW SETTLERS. MELBOURNE, April 27. The Director of Immigration expects sixteen to twenty thousand new settlers, of whom fully half are children, will arrive from Britain this year.
