The polling for the election of nine Councillors and an informal poll on the Town Hall proposal for a £(>000 loan, is taking place to-day, a considerable amount of interest being shown. The Returning Officer (Mr A. A. Amlreves) states the result will not be available before 9 p.m. and probably it will he 9.30 p.m. The poll closes at 7 p.m.
Clements Motors have commenced today a winter motor service to and from AVailio. Cars will leave Hmsitika every Wednesday at 9.45 a.m., a wiving at Waiho at 5.30 p.m. the same day. The return journey will he made every Friday, leaving AA'aiho at 9 a.m. and arriving at Hokitika at 5 p.m. This will enable passengers to leave AA'aiho on Friday mornings and reach ( hristehureh the following evening. The AVest land County Council has been advised that, the Government has resolved to make an enquiry into the royalties question, which has for so many years been a subject of dispute with AVest Coast local bodies. The investigation refers to past payments, and will be confined to the period from 1914 to date. Mr MeGavock, Conservator of Forests and Air King of the Nelson Lands Office, are the officers appointed by the Government to go into the question. This course will be quite satisfactory to the local bodies as it is what has been demanded for many years past. An untoward incident occurred during the address given by his Lordship Bishop Julius at the united memorial service in the King Edward Barracks, Christchurch on Sunday afternoon. Air Albert Bidgood, who conducted the combined Christchurch Professional Afusicians' Orchestra and the AVoolston Band, was sitting a little to his Lordship’s right when suddenly, while his Lordship was in the middle of an impassioned and eloquent appeal to his hearers, his hand came down on Air Bidgood’s head. No one was more grieved at this unprecedented “laying on of hands’’ than liis Lordship, but the conductor appeared none the worse for it.
