An explanation of' the restriction placed on auctioneering firms by tin recently gazetted timber regulations, was made by an official of the Board of Trade recently. The regulations fix the maximum price of all kinds and grades of New Zealand sawn timber at the various centres based on the price list of firms in that centre; the only variation in tln> price at individual towns is that deemed necessary to meet freight charges. New Zealand timbers can he sold only by sawinillers or those persons who have been licensed as timber merchants by the Board of Trade, and it is illegal for any person to sell more than an annual aggregate of 500 superficial feet without such permit. A special clause prohibits the sale of indigenous timbers by auction unless the ■1 rd grants a permit. “It is evident,” stated the official, “that if timber is allowed to be sold by auction tliete is every probability of the maximum fixed price being exceeded, and this renders both the purchaser and the vendor liable to the penalties provided by the Order-in-Council.” North British Solid Truck Tyres carry the bulk of New Zealand’s heavy loads, in all weathers, on all classes of roads.
