HOKITIKA HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

(To the Editor). gj r _The facts and figures given by Mr Michel in his letter are quite true, but they avoid the question which w being discussed. That is, that we wished the public to know that even though powerless apparently to do anything much, the High School Board were taking so little interest in their trust funds, that considerably less income is available than if they were a live body, and this is hardly fair play to the public Surely no business man would allow his money to stay on deposit at 4* per ccll t, when the Government offered 61 per cent. Nor would he let the Government House property for its rental, now that house property m Hokitika is so much more valuable. Again, it was not suggested at tfte meeting that a High School should be established here. What we do want however, is a hostel for hoys, and we want the Board to co-operate with the School Committee in setting up sue a hostel, especially as the Board are trustees of a property very suitable for such an object. The objection however is that it would mean work and that the Board cannot do. Their attitude is “Whatever you do we will bless it, hut we ‘sit’ still —and talk.”

I am etc., MEMBER OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE
