(Our own Correspondent.) The meeting of householders was held | in the School room last evening for the j purpose of electing a new committee j for the ensuing year. There was a very poor attendance, only some dozen householders being present. Hon. J. Griminoud was voted to th e chair. On behalf of the outgoing committee the Secretary (A. W. Peebles) read the following report: ANNUAL REPORT. At a meeting of householders held on the 26th April of last year tho following gentlemen were elected to serve as your committee for the ensuing term vj z; Messrs G. Brice, G. H. Chapman, J. Muir, J. Phillips and A- W. Upjohn. During the year 10 meetings have been held and tho attendances were as follows:—Brice 10, Muir 9, Phillips 9, Chapman 6, Upjohn 7. At the beginning of the term there wa.s a roll number of 85 scholars and the present roll number is the same.
The Committee desire to impress on the parents the necessity of sending their children to school on every possible occasion, as unless the attendance is kept up to an. average of 81 the services of the second assistant will he dispensed with which would be detrimen■o the best interests of the school. The annual inspection of the school took pi aco in August and the result reflects the highest credit on the excellent work of the teachers. During the year two concerts were held in aid of school funds, the financial results were most satisfactory, the amount of £36 being netted. The promoters of the concerts are to he congratulated on the splendid result of their labours. The £36 has been subsidised by the Board to the extent of £1 for £1 making £72 in all. Of this amount £2O was set aside for the establishment of a school library, £36 for improvements to grounds and £l6 for school apparatus viz: a school museum. The Library which was started some few months back has proved a great success.
A start lias been made to improve the grounds and it is to ho hoped the incoming committee will continue the work with beneficial results. The museum cases, of which one will be placed in each of the three rooms have been ordered and it is hoped that this branch will also he well established during the coming year. During the past year the school build ings and the teacher’s residence have been thoroughly overhauled and painted and arc now in a first class state of repair. There is a good stock of fuel on hand which should last the winter through.
| The finances are also in a very j, healthy state, as is shown bv balance • sheet. The Committee started tho I year with a credit balance of £3B and have now about £6O to hand over to I the new committee.
Mr Osmers movod and Mr S. P. Evans seconded the report and balance sheet be received, approved and adopted, both gentlemen eulogising the good work, of thrf outgoing .committee. Hion. J. Grimmond also endorsed the remarks.— Carried.
A hearty vote of thanks was also passed in favour of the teachers who had done such good work for the year. Nominations were then received for
the now committee as follows —Messrs C. Brice, J Muir, J. Phillips, A. W Upjohn, and C. R. Upjohn. No further nominations being forthcoming the above fire were declared duly elected A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting. At a, meeting of the new committee held immediately, Mr C. Brice was reelected chairman, and Mr A. W. Peebles, Secretary and Treasurer. The meeting night was set down for the third Saturday in each month at 8 p.m.
