AUCKLAND, April 16. i The Hon Mr Guthrie says that Mr | Thompson, Chief Drainage Engineer, 1 has returned from the United States with information and plant that will enable the Government to carry out ' drainage schemes in different parts of the Dominion with tho expedition that was quite impossible under the c ! ‘ ' methods. A report prepared by Mr Thompson would come before Cabinet at ! tho earliest possible moment, and would ' bo made public as soon as it had been ! considered. Tho schemes proposed 1 would benefit Auckland, also other 1 parts of tho Dominion. i .... ! ! MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. | DUNEDIN, April 18 1 Cr. J. S. Douglas was elected Mayor of Dunedin unopposed. Twenty-six candidates were nominated for twelve j 1 seats on the Council, i TIMARU. April 18. F. J. Rollcston and W. Angland were nominated for tho Mayoralty, vice ! W. C. Raymond, retired, whilst 27 ; nominations were received for 12 seats ' on the Borough Council. j BUTTER PRICES. AUCKLAND, April 18. i Dairy companies have reduced the selling price of their butter by one i penny per pound, says Hon. Nosworthy Minister for Agriculture. The price to tli e consumer remained unaltered, this i being brought about by a subsidy of , twopence per lb. instead of threepence ’ as was the case from April Ist., and sixpence as had been the case from October last until the end of March.
