[PEB CRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT. WELLINGTON MAYORAL ELECTION WELLINGTON, April 11 Councillor L. McKenzie lias decided to retire from the Wellington Mayoral contest. At a meeting at Karori tonight, he explained his decision. His retirement would leave Councillor R. A. Wright, M.P., and Hon T. W. Ilislop ill tile field to oppose the Labour candidate, Mr Pat. Hickey. An independent committee heard the claims of Mr McKenzie and Hon Mr Ilislop, and both candidates agreed to abide hv the decision of the Committee. It was decided that Mr McKenzie lie asked to retire.

FOUND DROWNED. INVERCARGILL, April 8 At the inquest on James McFarlane, aged seventy-six, who was found drowned in the Riverton estuary, evidence was given that on Monday the deceased visited Invercargill and deposited about £7OOO worth of securities with the Public Trustee, and also left a will, and gave the Trustee power of attorney to collect moneys due. He appeared quite rational, discussed financial arrangements, and made certain requests. He was last seen the same night proceeding to his home at South Riverton- There were no suspicious circumstances attending his death, and a verdict of found drowned was returned. Deceased was a bachelor, without relatives in the Dominion. SAD MOTOR FATALITY. AUCKLAND, April ITA sad fatality occurred in Remuern this afternoon, when a motor car containing Mr N. P. Wyatt, solicitor, of Ucmuera, his wife, and two children, and a friend named Miss Brown, capsized. Mrs Wvatt received such severe injuries that she died on the way to the hospital. Wyatt sustained a broken collar-bone. Miss Brown sustained severe injuries to her head. The driver „f the car, Mr H. N. Stables, had his wrist broken. The children escaped injure. Mr Wyatt and his party weie on a trial run in the car, with the idea

of puchasing it. Tt is believed that one of the wheels collapsed, and that the car thus turned over on its sid^.
