BRITISH LABOUR CRISIS.

MANY PH'S FLOODED. (Received This Day at 12.20 p.mO LONDON, April 11. Bridgeman in tlio Commons said forty pits are completely flooded, involving 16,000 workmen. It is impossible to forecast how many pits will again be workable, or the amount irrecoverable. HOPEFUL SIGNS. (Received this day at 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 11. V; The fact that the miners are agreeing ' to meet the owners is accepted as evidence that the strike will now be settled, and the resumption of woik at the lower wages. It is expected o produce an immediate fall m the cost of living with a proportionate improvement in wage values. It is anticipated the settlement m\\ the turning point as regards trad depression. The Government s intimation that it is prepared to grant monetary assistance to tide over the wage difficulty in unproductive distnc s as greatly helped the situation.
