Armed Republicans forced some soldiers to drive two military lorries that were transporting flour from barges, to a selected spot. The flour was then emptied into the^canal. The lorries were set on fire and destroyed. , A DESERTER KILLED. LONDON, April 6 At an inquest on the murder of Thomas Shannon, a farmer, of Kilrush (Clare), evidence disclosed his assassination as being the outcome of Shannon’s secession from the Sinn Fein movement. Shannon acted as the Magistrate of a Sinn Fein court, but he criticised the court’s methods and withdrew his active participation in the movement.
