Timber-Cutting Rights.
NO RIDS AT AUCTION
At the sitting ot the Wellington Lam! Board last week the right to cut and remove timber, estimated to con-
sist, of 22,!)i)2,200 superficial feet, was ottered at public auction, and there was not a single hid for any of the lots. The conditions of the sale were the usual ones in connection with the cutting of timber on Crown lands, and the timbers comprised totnra, matai rimu, mii'o and kahikatea. There, wer live milling areas in all as follows:
Lot 1. Sections 7,8, I), 1.0, 13, 1-1, Block IV, ilautapu Survey District. Area, 88(5 acres 2 roods. Estimated quantity in superficial feet: Totnra. 2,000,500; matai, 1,071,000 ; rimu and mini. 225,000: kahikatea, 5,538,400. Up set price. L‘20,520. Time for removal of timber, six voars.
Lot 2. -Sections, 19,20, Block IV, seel ions 12, 1-1, 15, 1(5, 18, Block VIII, Ilautapu Survey District: Area, -1(15 acres 0 roods 20 perches. Estimated quantaity in superficial feet : Tytara, 1,100,100; matai, 619.-100; rimu and miro, 71,500; kahikatea. 3,378,200. Upset price L' 14.2(55. Time for removal of timber four years.
Lot 3. Section 5, Block XV, Manga - nui Survey District: Area, 195 acres 3 roods 20 perches. .Estimated quantity in superficial feet: Matai, 665,600; rimu, 2,970,900; kahikatea, 1,687,200. Upset (nice, £798(5. Time for removal of timber, four years. Lot I. Section 2(5, Block 11, Makoinku Survey District: Area. 27 acres 3 roods. Estimated quantity in superficial feet: AiaLai, 27,800; rimu 83,300. mini 55,500 kahikatea, I 1,000. 1 pset price L'277. Time for removal of timber, one vear.
Lid 5.- Section 21, Block 11. Maungakaivatu Survey District: Area, 69 acres 3 roods. Estimated quantity in superlieia. Ifoet : Totara 217,901); matai. 210,300 ; rimu, 799,200; kahikatea. 251100. Upset- price. £IBSO. Time for removal ol timber, two years.
A 1 though there was a representative attendance of millers who were aware of the upset, prices, there was not a single hid. and (he general opinion of the hoard was that the prevailing financial stringency had scared the millers or else they were unable to arrange the finance.
