The Minister of Defence informed the local Returned Soldiers Association that South African veterans will be placed on the same footing as men serving in the late war, in the matter of medical treatment in case of a recurrence of war disabilities, also for the reissue of artificial limbs.
EDUCATION BOARD DECISION
HINDU TEACHER NOT WANTED
AUCKLAND, This Day
The question of employing a Hindu as teacher under the Education Board wits discussed by the Board last night. An application was received from a, Hindu for employment its probationer and was referred to the Department for an opinion. The reply from the Department stated there was no objection to the applicant being employed. When the reply was read by the Secretary, Mr Pardie said he would like the Board’s direction in regard to such an appointment. Mr J. Boddie said as a matter of principle he strongly objected to the employment of men of tho coloured races in our schools. There were applicants of our own blood for positions as teachers. The education of our children was of the utmost importance. It was the duty of the I Board to exercise extreme care regarding appointments. FOUND DROWNED. INVERCARGILL, April (j. .Limes MeFarlane, aged 70, a retired merchant was found drowned in Riverton estuary yesterday aftoarnoon. the governor. GREYMOFTH, April 0. The Governor-General arrives tomorrow evening from Recfton. A reception takes place in the Town Hall and dinner and hall on Friday evening. There will be arches and public and private bouses decorated. He leaves for Hokitika on Saturday.
