ABA Hi; 11A FAT STOCK SALE

At the above yards yesterday the entry comprised 29 fat lambs, 83 fat sheep and 45 head of cattle. There was the usual attendance of buyers present and the quality of the yarding, especially the cattle, was ail prime. Nevertheless there was an unexpected drop in prices which receded to that of pro war days. Prime ox beef averaged from 35s to •lbs per hundred while the most noticeable drop was for cows and heifers, the ■former ranging from 22s 6d to 30s per hundred, heifer beef being slightly

firmer at about 24s to 32s (kt hundred. A reference to the correspond ing sales in April 1914 showed cow and heifer beef from 27s Gd to 35s per hundred, while ox beef is recorded as having sold up to 44s and 455. Sellers, however, realised the position and cheerfully submitted to the prices ruling. Sheep, however, were slightly firmer than the last two sales. The following sales wore recorded: Messrs W. Jeffries and Co sold on account of: Mr M. Wallace, 21 hoggets at 21s. 29 lambs at 17s fid: on account of Mr G. Hea, 20 hoggets at 17s 9d, 42 ewes at His; on account of Mr S. G. Ferguson, 2 blks at £l3 ss, 2

at £ll 17s fid, 3 at £10; on account of Mr N. Friend, 2 blks. at £ls 2s fid, 2 at £l4 2s fid, 2 at £l3 os, 1 at £lO 10s, 2 cows at £lO, 2 at £8 17s fid, 2 heifers at £9 10s, 2 at £7 2s fid, 3 at £7 10s. 4 at £6 2s fid, 2 cows at £5 15s.

Messrs M. Houston and Co. report: At the above yards yesterday our entry consisted of 90 fat sheep and 35 head of fat cattle. The usual buyers were present. Imf competition was not at all keen, prices showing a, further decline on those ruling at last sale. Ihe hulk of the yarding consisted ol heifers and cow heel’, which sold at from 32s fid to 20s pfr hundred, ox Ix'ef realizing about 355. We sold on account of Mr Harcourfe, 23 prime wethers at 25s 3d, 22 nt 23s fid. 45 fat ewes at 18s; on account of Mr I’. Douglas, 2 cows at £7, 2 heifers and 1 cow at £fi ss, 3 heifers at £fi: on account of Mr T.
