! RIMi: DREDGE PONTOON ! lIAI’PY INAUGURAL START ! The Himii Dredging Company’s large pontoon, which is to carry the machinery of Hie largest dredge yet built in the Southern Hemisphere was iircessfully floated into its dam this afternoon at 2.45 o clock. There was a large crowd present from Hokitika, Ilium, Woodstock and other centres, including a great number >1 ladies and children with the usual busy photographer and snapsiiotter. t The large pontoon was the cynosure of all eyes, as the staff were engaged m knocking out the ties holding the pontoon in its place. Then there was a second’s silence and a hurst of cheering as the huge structure gracefully travelled along the skids and into tho water, the launching being a most slice* 1 «- ful one, tin*' pontoon floating lightly mi the large sheet of water dammed on for the purpose.
Tbe-pontoon was quietly guided ‘o the side of the dam.
The mangement are to be honrtilv congratulated on the first step in Oi fir great venture having boon so successfully completed.
