LINER SINKS AT ONCE. LOSS OF LIFE AVOIDED. AUSTHAi.IAN AND N.Z. CAIiI.E ASSOCIATION. t NEW YORK, April 1. The passenger steamer "Governor," of the Admiral Line, hound from San Francisco to Seattle, came into clolision with the steamer ‘‘West Flartsfan 1 bound from Vancouver to Bombay, off Fort Townsend (Washington). The ‘•Governor” sank in twenty-five minutes The passengers took to the life boats. Steamers are now racing to the rescue. LATER. The “West Hartland was rammed by the “Governor,” but she is comparatively uninjured. Site is standing b>. The collision took place at midnight in a fog. The whole of the 270 passengers and crew of the “Governor” are believed to be safe in the boats. SEVERAL VICTIMS. (Received This Day at 8.30 a.in.) NEW YORK, April 1. Seven passengers and three of the crew of the Governor are missing. The remainder are aboard the West Hartland which is proceeling to Seattle.
