HIGH COM ViiSSIONER’S REPORJ

The Departiio-iu oi Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated London, 29th inst., from the High Com missioner:

Moat.—There is uo material change in the market. Chilled beef is realising maximum prices, hut frozen is in large supply at previous quotations. New Zealand light-weight mutton and lamb is selling freely at th e maximum price of 9d and Is per lamb, respectively.

Butter.—There is a fair demand, but the markeat is quiet, buyers waiting to knew the price at which the Government stocks are offered for sale.

Cheese. The market is quiet, and has an easier tendency. Canadian white is worth £'7 10s to £7 16s per ewt (Is 4d to Is 4iid per lb) ; coloured, £8 to 68 '2s per ewt. (approximately Is sid per Lb) ; and coloured £7 18s to £8 2s per ewt. (Is to Is 5d per lb). Hemp.—The Manila market is steady but there is scarcely any demand. J. grade, January-March shipment to March-May shipment is now quoted at £3B per ton, buyers. Now Zealand is neglected and nominally unchanged. High points spot at .66 per ton. March May shipment at £42 per ton, and fair at £43 and £4O per ton, respectively. At this week’s public sale 4781 bales were offered, but met with very little demand, and practically all were withdrawn.

Wool. The Bradford market continues dull, and values of tops yarn and piece-goods tend downwards at present Quotations for tops are: —64’s (merino), 3s 4d 56’s (super half bred) 2s oil; 40’s (coarse cross-breds) prepared Is 2.)el per lb. Fruit.—The present supply consists chiefly of Oregon apples, which are selling at up to £1 4s a. case of 40lb. on account of the Easter demand. Pears: Only South are available which are realising 3s to 5s per dozen.
