VICE-REGAL VISIT TO HOKITIKA
GENERAL ARE AN GEM ENTS. The Vice-Regal party, including Lord and Lady Jellicoe and Hon Lucy Jellicoe, will arrive here on Saturday, June !)th, their stay in Hokitika extending to Monday the lltli, when the party depart for Otira. This morning the Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry) the County Chairman (Mr Murdoch), the Chairman of the Harbor Hoard (Mr Wild) and Mr Seddon, M.R., conferred in regard to a local piogramme for the reception and entertainment of the vice-royal visitors. The following general arrangements were agreed to for the Hokitika programme: SATURDAY, APRIL 9th.
Arrive nt Hokitika by car, April 9, 11 a.m. Public reception and presentation of joint address from local bodies of Westland. This will take place on Keller’s balcony, at which hotel the party will stay during their sojourn in Hokitika.
Noon. —Public luncheon at Supreme Hall, at which the vice-regal party will be the guests. Admission by ticket, sale of which for a limited number will be* arranged for next week. 1.30 p.m.—Visit Leviathan dredge, Rimu Flat, and Lake Kanicri. Afternoon tea and a launch trip to Dorothy Fall will be arranged.
Evening.—Returned Soldiers’ and Sailors’ dance at the Drill Shed, under the auspices of the Returned Soldiers’ Association.
At the public reception, veterans and returned soldiers will be asked to attend in force, and it is proposed to ieature the school children. School teachers will lie asked to arrange for the attendance of all scholars to be marshalled by the school staffs. The singing of patriotic sea songs will lie arranged for, and probably a juvenile naval tableau. SUNDAY, ARPIL 10. Forenoon. —Divine Service, the Viceregal party attending All Saints’ Church. Afternoon.—Visit to Hospital, and motor drive as may be arranged. Evening.— F tee. MONDAY, APRIL 11. Depart in morning for Otira. During the stay of the GovernorGeneral and party, the Kanicri Power Ltd. will arrange for the streets etc in the vicinity of Keller’s hotel to be lit at nights by electricity, Mr Cranston on behalf of the Company preferring any possible assistance in the matter. The citizens generally will be invited to assist in decorating their premises and arranging for a display of bunting to mark the 5 occasion of such a distinguished visit to the town.
