REPLY TO MR WILD. (To the Editor). Sir—How can you write such deliberate lies as you did in your letter of the 26th. ilist wlieii you must know that we (the butchers) are not charging a I - per lb. for mutton as we sold you mutton at 8d per lb on March 23rd., and we are not charging more than •lOd per lb. at the highest. AVe expected something better of you, a man in your position, who ought to know that we would most likely have live stock on hand (which w c , did) purcliasid some time before the sudden drop in stock, which we cannot sell at a less figure than wo are, only at a loss. I‘or yoiii- information we might tell you we have not yet been able to purchase any sheep since the fall in prices as we still have them on hand, which must be cleared out. In regard to your thival of offering your support to the opposition we do not mind that as no butcher,-, can sell at a less figure and pay their way than we do, and in support of this we can name 16 butchers who have been competing against us in the last 1 years and who have been unable to pay their way and have gone out of business. And now, Mr AVild, in conclusion allow us to offer you a little advice before you take up your pen to try and cast a charge of profiteering again®! the butchers.
